You will get to visit remote valleys, villages and High Mountain passes with spectacular views of snow-capped peaks, grand sweeping glaciers, forbidding rugged lunar terrain and quaint old monasteries. Lahaul and Spiti are two remote Himalayan Valleys of Himachal Pradesh. lying on the Indo-Tibet border. Strange, exciting, primitive, these valleys are unsurpassed in mountain scape, in the rugged beauty of their rocky escapements and the splendor of their snow covered peaks. Lahaul is marked by a central mass of uniformly high mountains and massive glaciers. The two rivers, Chandra and Bhaga which rise on either side of the Baralacha La, flow through the narrow Chandra and Bhaga valleys. Lahaul is a land of fascinating Buddhist art and culture. The monasteries of Lahaul-Spiti are rich repositories of ancient murals, thankas, wood carving and golden images of Padmasambhava. The valley lies at a height of 2745 meters above sea level. Summer in this valley is cool and pleasant with
green grass and alpine flowers. There are little monsoon in both these valleys and this enables climbers & trekkers to enjoy a long and unbroken season in perpetual sunshine to explore the wilderness and grandeur of the inner Himalaya. This unique feature makes Lahul-Spiti as an ideal destination for tourists
and trekkers in the month of July, August and September. Keylong is 115 kms from Manali and is the District Headquarters of Lahul-Spiti District.
Visit the Dhanka r and Tabo monasteries. Tabo motery is more than a thousand years old and is famous
for its wall paintings and murals. It is also known as the Ajanta of the Himalayas. Return back to Kaza in
the evening.
Travel by jeep from Kaza to Chandertal over Kunzam la (4558m) pass. The drive provides you with spectacular views of the rugged Spiti valley, CB ranges of the Himalaya and the astonishing Barashigri Glacier, which is one of the largest glaciers in Himachal. On arrival, set up camp at Chandertal.
Travel to Keylong the headquarters of Lahaul, en route passing several picturesque villages like Khoksar and Sissu (which houses the temple of Lord Geypan, the powerful presiding deity of Lahaul valley). On arrival, set up camp near Keylong/hotel. In the afternoon, hike up to either the ancient Guru Gantal monastery or Khardong village and monastery.
After breakfast visit for Udaipur is located in the Pattan valley, a beautiful side valley in Lahaul. In the afternoon, explore the Udaipur village and visit the Mrikula Devi / Triloknath temple. Over night in keylong.
Early in the morning Drive to Manali. Over the Rohtang Pass (3980m). This mighty pass marks the dramatic transition from the lush green verdant scenery of the Kullu valley to the forbidding stark vistas of the Himalayan rain shadow areas of Lahaul and Spiti. On arrival, check in to the hotel.
